A grievance is defined as a contention on missed-application, violation, or inequitable application of the agency’s affirmative action plan, or any other agency policy or procedure.
At any time, an employee feels aggrieved, he or she is encouraged to bring the matter to the attention of the Executive director. This may be done verbally or by written notification.
Whenever an employee indicates a desire or intent to file a grievance, the procedure shall be explained by the Executive Director.
If the employee alleges discrimination on the part of the agency, a discrimination complaint may also be filed with any external civil rights agency, to include any of the following:
- City of Olympia Human Relations Commissions
- Thurston County DCYF Office of Equal Opportunity
- Office of Civil Rights
- US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
- Washington State Fair Wage Commission
The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with all grievance procedures.
If an employee fails to comply with the formal procedures and deadlines as delineated below, the complaint will be considered withdrawn. If the agency fails to respond according and within the time limits prescribed, the employee has the right to proceed to the next step of the grievance procedure.
