What services must I provide for medically fragile children and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities?
(1) If you care for medically fragile children and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, you must ensure the following services are provided, if prescribed by a physician:
- An individualized treatment plan suited to the unique needs of each child in care; and
- Care by physicians, including surgeons, general and family practitioners, and specialists related to the child’s particular diagnosis. (WAC 388-148-1400)
The following policies and procedures in compliance with state regulations deal with specific aspects of the client population that may be encountered.
Suicidal Ideation: During intake, each client is to be screened. When there are indications that a client may be suicidal, the client is to be counseled in a one-on-one session to determine the current risk and to help develop an intervention strategy.
Medical Emergencies: All staff members are expected to be qualified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation and trained in emergency procedures in the event a client has a medical problem. At intake, clients are asked to provide the names of a family member or other person who can be notified in case of emergency.
